Abandoned by an unscrupulous father and the equally devellish Uncle Victor, Milos with only the one-eyed Teddy, Yasha, for company, takes residence in a two-hundred-year-old textile mill, the cradle of the Industrial Revolution.
Milos continues writing letters to his mother, weaving the usual brand of comic genius, a portrayal of glorious harmony between father and son. However, mills, especially the two-hundred-year-old type, have a habit of sharing their past and to a young lad this spells both adventure and trouble.
Rummaging among dustbins Milos discovers a boxed game of Snakes and Ladders. Pitted against Yasha, his mastering of the game goes unchallenged until he discovers to his surprise the pieces have moved, challenging his suspicions that he really isn’t alone after all. Then, while sleeping, a stranger calls.
